Wedding Wednesday -- Dressing your man

Hello friends :) I wanted to share a special fashion-inspired post with you all today. As we finally welcome warm spring temperatures it means one thing for sure is on the horizon: Wedding Season! Not only am I getting married (in 52 days!) but Paul and I are also invited to quite a few this year and we want to be sure we're looking swanky at each one :)

I usually find myself drawn to brightly colored cocktail dresses for weddings and thankfully they're easy to find! But what about the guys? It's well documented that Paul loves a fun blazer. But more importantly, he loves a well fitting suit.

Enter Bonobos.

Have you all heard of Bonobos? Have the men in your lives ordered from them? My brother and one of my cousins exclusively wear their awesomely tailored pants because of the amazing quality and length (both of those dudes have the worlds longest legs). Paul is also a HUGE fan of their pants, blazers, and shirts.

When Bonobos alerted me that their new Spring Line of suits came out, I knew I had to share. From what I can tell, a lot of you have plenty of weddings, parties, and other fun occasions that require your +1 to dress up, too :)

Here are a few of my favorites:

Afternoon Wedding? How about your man tries the Foundation Slim - Cotton - Grey Microstripe suit

Garden Party or going to the Derby? How could you go wrong with the ultra preppy Foundation - Seersucker Blue & White?

Heading to a Black-Tie or Black-Tie Optional event (like our wedding)? I love a man in a classic Tux and I think this grey one is a cool twist on the traditional tux
The Capstone Tux - Black with Polka Dot Lining (look at that lining! amazing)
The Capstone Slim - Grey Linen Tux I think this is so cool!

Any Occasion: When in doubt, one cannot go wrong with a classic Black (slim) Suit
Perfect for almost any event! The Foundation Slim- Black Suit

And really, what's hotter than a man in a well-fitting suit or tux? ;)

A big thank you to the fine folks at Bonobos, for a limited time, you can get 20% off your purchase as a new customer! Use the promo code: NEWCUSTOMER20

Be sure to check out their wedding help page - "Groomservice"

All opinions and thoughts are my own :) I really like Bonobos and I think you and the men in your life will, too! xo

My Bridal Shower and a Break

Sorry for the radio silence. Things are really gearing up around these parts and I fear that this little corner of the Internet will have to take a back seat. I'll pop back in when I can :)

For now, I want to share a few photos from my Bridal Shower that was held this past weekend. It was such a special and wonderful weekend! I didn't stop smiling :) Being surrounded by some of my favorite and most important women in the world was truly amazing.

We had friends and family in town to help me celebrate and I was really "showered" so sweetly with gifts! Spoiled I tell you! My mom and sister took many, many more photos on the nice camera, but these simple i-phone photos will have to do :)

My sister and I enjoyed getting pampered in the morning at Dry Bar - Bethesda and my dress is Lilly (last season and I scored it on major sale, but I also love this one, this one, and this one!).

Surrounded my by mom, sister, and two of my aunts

Twin/MOH and Future Sister in Law :)

With my amazing bridesmaids who were in town!

The amazing Mom's! Paul's on the left, mine on the right
Blonde bombshell sandwich. How cute is my rehearsal bouquet? Complete with a "W" :)

Bad Blogspot

I had my weekend recap all ready to go - but all of my photos are appearing upside-down or sideways on the blog! Argh.

Blaming it on one less hour of sleep, thank you Daylight Savings! Actually, one less hour of sleep is totally worth the added light at the end of the day :)

Hopefully all technical things are back up and running soon!

Ideas for our Future Home

One day... sources for photos can be found here
We are still in the midst of searching for our first home. As we visit open houses and listing online, I often find myself imagine our lives together in each new house. We know that wherever we end up, we will most likely have a few DIY projects we'll want to accomplish to spruce up the home and truly make it our own. For example:

We're both big fans of hardwood floor, so removing carpet and laying hardwood floors down would be a project we would want to tackle right way.  Look at this awesome transformation of the stairs above. I love the painted stairs! No need for a runner :)

I'm craving an at home work space in our next place. I currently have my laptop and essential files on our kitchen table which isn't an ideal situation. Something as easy as the table and chair above could work for me. I don't need much, just a little nook.
We're longing for an updated Master Bedroom. I love the look and feel of this one, and think it's something we could accomplish in our first house. I would probably chose an ottoman for the end of the bed that could also double as storage. Storage is key!
I love how bright and airy this family room is. We would probably have a few less decorations around, but this has such a warm, inviting feel that I love.

You all read Young House Love, right? Or you've at least hard of them? John and Sherry are MASTER DIY-ers, and have a great collection of easy step-by-step projects for homeowners. I've bookmarked the painting one, the money saving one, and sprucing up furniture one. Here's the whole collection.

Any tips for future first-time home buyers? What DIY projects would be first on your list?

Weekend Recap - Girls Weekend in Charlottesville (and the J. Crew Clearance Store!)

Happy snowy Monday, friends! I am not going to complain about yet another snow storm in D.C., but yea... I'm ready for spring.

This weekend was Paul's Bachelor Party in Austin, TX! So, with the guys were gone, we decided to do a girls-weekend with our Mom in Charlottesville, VA :) Have you been there? It's about 2 hours south west of D.C. and home to UVA - the alma mater of quite a few of my family members. It's an amazing city!

Our first stop of the weekend Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards for some wine tasting :) Naturally

Pippin Hill is a gorgeous spot for a wedding - they were setting up for one that night

From there we went to a college bar to cheer on UVA vs. Syracuse in men's basketball - very fun and loved being in the victorious city for the game!

For dinner we went to The Local and LOVED it! It's just a short drive from UVA, and has delicious food, good drinks, and huge space.
Great Malbec at The Local

Sunday morning we woke up early and fueled up for something epic....

The J. Crew Clearance Store.
cue the angels singing

The J. Crew Clearance Store is located in Lynchburg, VA which is about 1 hour from where we were in Charlottesville and about 3 hours south of D.C. Public Service Announcement to anyone who is within driving distance to this mega store: GO. You will not be disappointed!

Some quick facts about the J. Crew Clearance Store:

  • This is where catalog returns go, overstock items, and more.
  • They honor student and teacher discounts on top of their sales
  • There is a huge wedding and parties section
    • I overheard a sales associate telling a bride that she would hold a selection of bridesmaids dresses (and they had every color and a lot of styles) for the bride for 3 days so her bridesmaids could come try on.
    • Long bridesmaids dresses: $100, short $70
    • The dresses are all current, this season dresses
    • Also about 100 wedding dresses priced for under $500 (most about $175)
  • Currently all winter items (sweaters, coats, etc) are an extra 40% off
    • Including cashmere :)
  • The store was organized perfectly and nice, helpful sales associates
  • Ballet flats = $20
  • Small Madewell section
  • Small men's and crew cut sections

I was able to score some great items
I snagged it for $85, currently retailing for $365

 Left to right:
J. Crew Factory blouse ($20), cashmere sweater tunic ($35), and the Megan Dress
Wedges ($45), ballet flats ($20/each)

My mom and sister scored equally impressive deals :)
We may have to make it an annual (monthly?!) trip to Lynchburg!

Short Weekend Recap

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! It was sunny and warm here in D.C., but now it's snowing again. What gives?

Over the weekend we celebrated a birthday at the new swanky bowling alley in Georgetown called Pinstripes. If you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, you should! I was surprised at how nice it was (and how good the food is!).

I also cooked up a storm on Sunday, including my first ever stab at curry chicken salad. It was pretty good! Recipe via this book.

And to top it off, one of my best friends (and bridesmaids!) got engaged on Saturday and I'm still grinning about it :)  Love is definitely in the air!

Speaking of love and weddings, we're under 3 months until our big day! Lots of details left to iron out - wish us luck! xo

Back on my Feet

Apparently, there is a stomach virus going around :( and I fell victim to it sometime around Sunday afternoon/evening. I've been down and out for most of the week. But thankfully I'm almost back to 100% today because tonight is our wedding food and cake tasting! Aka, one of the things I've been looking forward to the most this whole wedding planning process!! ;)

We managed to have a lot of fun this weekend before I got sick - up early to watch the USA v. Russia Game (so good!), celebrate my wonderful mother's birthday, out for drinks in Georgetown, and more.

But then it was me, pedialyte, and lots of Johnny Weir's & Tara Lipinski's ice dancing and skating coverage. Seriously, thank goodness the Olympics are on, because it's basically the only thing that entertained me while I've been bed-ridden!

Here's to a healthy rest of the winter! Spring cannot come soon enough!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wishing you all a wonderfully sweet Valentine's Day!!!

My Valentine finally returns home today after being stuck on the West Coast because of the winter storm. Our plans include staying in with a nice bottle of red, cooking some steaks, and watching the finale of Sherlock ;)
What about you?

Sending you plenty of x's and o's

Wedding Wednesday -- The Countdown!

The first photo of us together - 2011 Free Fest Concert
Today marks 101 days until the BIG DAY! We're so excited and cannot believe the wedding weekend will be here so soon :)

We still have plenty of items on our to-do list, but thankfully we've recently crossed off some big ones like narrowing down our invites, selecting our wedding rings, and we're working on our get-away car and possible video-grapher :)

Ha. This is the photo that was on our Save the Date ;) It's Paul's favorite picture of us (yes, even with his face being blurry), so how could I argue with that!? It's from my 28th Birthday, one of my most favorite nights.

I love this guy so much and cannot believe how lucky I am to be marrying him.

101 days and counting!!! :)

Dressing for Gold

Going for gold

You're obsessed with the Olympics, too, right?

In case you haven't heard, it's still winter. And now we're several days in to the Winter Olympics, and on top of all of that, the south and mid-atlantic regions (and probably the North East, too?) are getting slammed with more snow this week. Ugh.

As much as I want spring to arrive ASAP, I think we have a few more weeks of winter to deal with before Mother Nature cooperates. As such, I'm posting this sporty and winter-appropriate look.

It's also perfect for cheering on USA! USA! USA!
